Diane von Fürstenberg International Women's Day Event: Women Take Charge!

Happy International Women’s Day!

As we celebrate our rich history this month, I am so incredibly inspired by the power, resilience, and impact of women coming together to support and uplift one another.

I had the privilege of attending Diane von Fürstenberg’s Women’s Day Celebration at Google’s Pier 57 state-of-the-art work-play space —an event that truly embodied the spirit of women being “in charge” and leading with kindness. A message that carries even more weight in this climate.

Women are at a critical moment in history, we are at a major crossroads. The very rights we have spent the past 100 years fighting for—from voting rights to reproductive freedom—are under attack. With a new administration working to erase everything about us—from our exceptional military service to our overall leadership—it’s easy to feel unsettled. But we must remember, we are still in charge.

That’s why gatherings like DVF’s Women’s Day Celebration are so vital. Diane von Fürstenberg isn’t just a fashion icon; she’s a force for women’s empowerment, using her voice and influence to unite and energize women to take action. And that’s exactly what this event did—it reminded every woman in the room that our stories, our voices, and our power cannot be erased.

When I founded iWoman, my mission was clear: to create a platform that celebrates women’s successes and preserves our history—told through our own lens. I knew it was something special that women needed, but I underestimated how vitally important the global impact would be for such a time as this.

At a time when DEI is being stripped from governments, institutions and corporations; when attempts are being made to rewrite our history; we must be the ones documenting our own stories. We cannot let others tell us who we are or diminish the impact women have made, and continue to make, on society. We owe this much to our daughters and every little girl to keep our rich history alive.

There is so much power in women coming together. Being in a room filled with some of the most influential and accomplished women in the world is a reminder that we are still writing our own story.

Connecting with women like my dear friend Dawn Davis, one of the most brilliant book publishers in the world, or Tina Knowles, whose influence has shaped music, fashion and culture, and meeting new friends like Audrey Wisch, a young CEO who turned a college project into a thriving business, reinforces a powerful truth: women don’t wait for change—we create it.

In true DVF style, the women’s day kickoff event was packed with insightful panel discussions featuring powerhouse women who are shaping industries, leading movements, and proving that we are still in charge including:

  • Sophia Bush & Aurora James on what it means to own who we are

  • Rashida Jones on embracing the unknown

  • Jackie Aina on leading with kindness

  • Leymah Bowee & Mariam Jalabi on building the future through advocacy

And these were just a few of the voices that left us energized, empowered, and ready to take action.

Our stories matter—and we must continue to tell them. This Women’s History Month, let’s commit to owning our narratives. Let’s celebrate each other, amplify each other’s voices, and refuse to be erased. Because no matter who tries to rewrite our history, women are still in charge.

Who are the women inspiring you this month? Tag them in the comments and let’s celebrate together.
