State of the City 2025

Mayor Eric Adams delivered his fourth State of the City address on January 9, 2025 at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. One of the main points he iterated during the speech is that he wants to make New York City the best place to raise a family.

Part of his plans to make NYC more family friendly include building more affordable housing and connecting families with affordable housing. In support of these initiatives the Adams Administration introduced and passed the “City of Yes for Housing Opportunity,” a plan that Adams says is “the most pro-housing zoning proposal in city history.” Mayor Adam’s commitment to families directly impacts women, who are often the primary caregivers in a household and rely on assistance for childcare, education, and providing food.

In conjunction with Mayor Adams’ dedication to making the city the best place for families, he spoke about prioritizing public safety. This is another issue that holds significance for the women of NYC. Women are more likely than men to be victims of assaults and domestic violence.

As women’s health has also become an issue in the country since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Mayor Adams assured New York City residents that access to abortion healthcare will remain available for New Yorkers. In fact, the city will become the first public health system in the country to help people access abortion care through telehealth, on top of expanding services to help women access doula and midwife services throughout their pregnancies.

As Mayor Adams looks ahead to this year’s re-election, he remains dedicated to ensuring the city’s public safety, housing needs, and putting expansive women’s health initiatives at the forefront.
